Biggest Loser 5K event

Well here are pictures from that day, as promised. It was actually pretty fun to do and Geoffrey and I are planning on trying to do another 5K (or different race) in the future. What was amazing about this, was people were there of all shapes, sizes, and ages. To me, this shows that you can do anything that you put your mind to, even when it's as simple as going for a walk.

Geoff and I stayed after and got to talk with Sarah, as well as the former Biggest Loser contestants. They were so nice, and seemed so genuinely happy to be there and put up with all of us who were star-struck. After all, they were where most of us are at now.....trying to figure out how to change our lives for the better.

Kristi and I...yes the very Kristi that is kicking everybody's butts in this competition!

Geoff getting ready

Karen (you know her as Karen O.) and I

Our little Phoebee....ready to go for a walk

The Starting line.....ready, set, run!

Ada, Phoebee and I

Adam, Phoebee and I. He LOVED Phoebee, even took a picture of her :)

Sam asked to hold Phoebee. It was so cute, because he couldn't quite figure out how to hold her and Phoebee just stared at him.

Koli, Geoff, Pheobee, Sarah, me and Darius

Sarah meeting Phoebee for the first time. So cute!

I am severely out of shape, and was so so so sore after the race, but it was worth it. I really hope that they do it again next year. Who's with me?

Weigh-in #6 RESULTS

Here are the results! Sorry it took so long. I didn't hear from some people (posted the results without them), plus I've been busy. So here you go! Keep up the good work. Kristi, of course, is still kicking our butts. Someone needs to give her a run for the money. Who's it going to be?

Dancing With The Stars

Did anyone else watch this last night? I am always a bit hesitant to watch when I don't know who the people are, or vice versa and I am just scared at what they're going to be like. But so far, there are a few that look like they might be pretty good.
Why in the world am I blogging about this on our New and Healthy Life blog you ask? Did anyone watch Kirstie Alley? Seriously for a big girl, she can move. And more power to her. I love that she is so confident and comfortable with who she is and is willing to go out in front of the world and show that big girls don't need to hide behind their weight. I love love love that she's doing the show and hope she wins it. It just shows you don't have to be a size zero to be active, dance your guts out, and look great doing it. Another inspiration for me to just keep dancing! Way to go Kirstie! You rock!!!!!!!!

Weigh-in #5 RESULTS

Here we go. Some of us (me...cough, cough) are obviously struggling. Wish I could figure out a way to get out of this funk. Any suggestions? I am hoping that this weekends 5K will inspire me. I am actually pretty excited about it. Who would of thought I'd be excited to go for a walk? Sarah, from The Biggest Loser is scheduled to be there, as well as many other former contestants. And I can't wait to see her! Did anyone watch her elimination show two weeks ago? It was sad to see her go, but she looks amazing! She's so inspiring! I am hoping that I get to pick her brain and see if she can help me out. Pictures will be posted after this weekend!!!!

I'd love to hear how people are doing. What's working, what's not. I will post soon about what's obviously not working for me. Not that any of you will care to read it....it's mainly for me. So keep up the good work everyone!

Weigh-in #4 RESULTS

Sorry about the wait. Some people didn't get me their numbers, but I decided I better post them any way. Remember that is a running tally.

Keep up the good work every one! By the way......two things to bring to your attention:

1. Look at past posts in the comment section. People have been putting comments, and asking questions that are aimed at some of you.

2. How many of you registered to do the Biggest Loser Resort 5K this month? As of last week, it was officially sold out .... 600 + participants. Hope some of you were able to register and do this. I am excited for it to get here. Hopefully the weather will be nicer by then :).

Choices

Did anyone watch Biggest Loser last night? If not, spoiler alert - Arthur was voted off. This show drives me bonkers sometimes. Karma can come back & bite you in the butt which is what happened to Arthur unfortunately.

A few episodes back he thought that he would take his position on the ranch into his own hands, trying to stay as long as he could, and ended up sabotaging himself last night. There came a point in the episode where the contestants where doing a 5K, and as long as they didn't finish last, they got to choose who their trainers would be. My friend Sarah, didn't want to have to make that choice since she'd worked out with both sets of trainers and really liked them. But something snapped in her, and she realized that she couldn't let the fate of her position on the ranch be in the hands of someone else. She kicked into high gear and finished the 5K, in second to last place. She chose to stay with the Black team. Ultimately, Arthur came in last, got put on the Red team, and the Red team voted for Arthur to go home.

Why am I bringing this up? Last night/today Sarah, on her Facebook profile, was ridiculed by people for her choice to stay with the Black team, making it so Arthur got voted off. Are you kidding me? I understand why people are upset that Arthur went home, because he clearly needed to stay, arguably more than anyone there....however, to pin that on Sarah is unfair. She made a choice that she felt was best for her to ensure that she stayed on the ranch for at least one week longer, which had NOTHING to do with sending Arthur home. Arthur made his choice long ago, to play the game, and it ended up biting him in the butt.

It's all about accountability. We all have made choices that have led us to this point in our lives. Some have been good, and some are obviously bad, which is why we are in this competition. But I believe that doing this, is more than just winning the money. It's about figuring out why we are doing the things that we do to make us gain the weight, and fixing it. Sarah went on the Biggest Loser to take back her life, and is doing an outstanding job. We may not have the luxury of being able to have a personal trainer, planned meals, scheduled work outs like she's had. But we do have the luxury of starting to have this support system to help us get to the person that we've longed to be. We have to find a balance to make this work, which I admit I have been struggling with. But I'm not going to give up. It may take longer than I would like, but I have the ultimate goal in site, and I will accomplish it. How about you?

Have something to say? Click on the comment link below and have at it. Remember that we can start a dialogue (a friendly banter if you will) by posting comments on each of these posts that I have created if you'd like. Maybe we can get something started with posting congrats, comments, questions etc. to be in better communication with one another. What do you think? I can't be the only one that is doing this that has something to say.

A friendly reminder of one of my last posts about the 5K taking place next month in St. George. Karen O, Kristi, Geoff and I have all signed up to do it. How about the rest of you? I am planning on walking the entire time, while pushing my baby in a stroller. Anyone care to join? Refer to the 5K post for information on it or click here for information.

Weigh-in #2 RESULTS

Sorry about the delay. I am still waiting on a few people to report, but thought I better get this posted and I can update it later. Remember that the numbers below are a running tally of the total percent of weight loss per person. Here are the results:

Kristi - you're smoking us! If the rest of you are like me, you're probably frustrated that the weight isn't coming off as you hoped. But I have to keep reminding myself that I am trying, I have set some goals for myself, and have achieved some. One of them is to exercise 2-3 days per week. I have done that for over a month now. The scale isn't showing it yet, but I am feeling it physically and emotionally. I feel energized and can tell that I am developing some muscle. I have been doing Zumba at a local class. For those of you who haven't heard of it, I recommend looking into it. It's a dance/aerobic exercise program and it's so much fun!!!!!!! They sell the dvd's online and TV. I love going to the local class, because it gives me a reason to get out of the house, and dance dance dance. I finally found an exercise that doesn't hurt & is fun to do.

We are all doing this for the ultimate goal of losing weight and being healthy, but we are doing it for our own reasons, and need to keep that goal in mind. Keep up the good work everyone!

Biggest Loser 5k -

I know the majority, if not all of us have watched The Biggest Loser at some point since it first started. For me, I have been a fan of the show since the beginning. This year, I especially have reason to watch, since a friend is one of the contestants. Sarah, from the pink team, is a friend of ours, and my siblings. She is one of the most awesome people that you'll ever meet, and getting to watch her go through this transformation has been great. In fact, she is one of the reasons why we decided to do this competition. She has inspired me and many others to make changes in their lives.

One of the many goals that I have "thought" of setting for myself is participating in some kind of race 5k, 1/2 or full marathon....who knows. But when it comes down to getting into shape to do one, I always fall short. I hate to run....it hurts and I just don't get any enjoyment from it. But I have to set a goal to complete something. So why not a 5k. Even if I don't run the whole time, I have to start somewhere.

Karen O. brought this to my attention. In March, in St. George, there is going to be a 5K that is sponsored by the Biggest Loser Fitness Ridge. Karen O. has already signed up, and Geoff and I are planning on participating as well. How fun would it be to get all of us that are participating in this competition together to run this race? I think we should do it!!!! Here's the information on it:

Weigh-in #1 RESULTS

Here are the results.

Click on the diagram for a bigger picture.

As you can see Kristi is kicking everyone's butt! What's her secret? She's currently doing Weight Watchers. Her workout routine has been a combination of P90X (which I've tried by the way......it kicks your butt! I highly recommend the Yoga portion of this program. It's great.) & a Jillian Michaels workout.

She's also currently taking a supplement called MetaboEnergetics. It helps boost your metabolism, curbs your appetite, and gives you a little energy. I am not sure if you can order them online, or what heath food stores they could be found in. But for you Cedar City/St. George participants, you can get them from Dr. Chris Romney (965 S. Main, Cedar City UT 435-586-9904) . Way to go Kristi!!!

How is everyone else doing? What's working? What's not working? Suggestions, tips, complaints? Let's hear it! Leave a comment below.

Weigh-in #1 results coming soon

I am waiting on a few more numbers to come in, and I will post the results of the first weigh-in soon.

Sunday, January 2, 2011

Hello everyone,

Well it's a new year, and you know what that means........dreaded resolutions. I don't about you all, but I hate making them because I never keep them. For instance, this year, I thought I'd try and be better at not putting things off to the last minute....NO MORE PROCRASTINATING! But here I am, about 2 weeks too late in sending this email to everyone. I am not off to a good start. So I am hoping that I can redeem myself by trying to do one thing on my list. That is to get healthy.

Every one has a different definition of getting healthy. We each have our own things that we have to struggle with. For me, I love sweets.....too much, which is one of the many reasons I am overweight. So I need to set realistic goals to try and handle this "problem". Some of you already know about this "Healthy Challenge", and have been waiting for notification to get started. Again, my apologies, for being the procrastinator that I am.

So what is "Healthy Challenge 2011 pt 1"? The most important part of this challenge is for all of us to set personal goals to achieve the healthy lifestyle we want, but financial motivation never hurts ;). Those of you who would like to participate, we are doing a "Biggest Loser" type challenge. We are going to do a bi-monthly weigh-in, starting this month and going to July 1st. It's a $20.00 buy-in for each person. The person with the highest percentage of weight loss will win the pot. Those participating in the Weight-loss Challenge, will send cash, check, cashiers check or money order before January 31st to:

email me at: dezaree@gmail.com to get the address to send the money to

We are only keeping track of body percentage lost. However, for accuracy, please let me know your beginning weight (as of the receipt of this email) and then your weight as of the 1st and 15th of each subsequent month. We will do a bi-monthly weigh in, reported to me with your total weight so that I can put those on a spreadsheet and everyone can know where everyone else is at. Please let me know how you want to be listed, because I will be sending this information out to all those participating (first name, first/last, alias, or number). Please report to me on the 1st and 15th of every month. I will email a spreadsheet (if you'd prefer) to everyone within a couple days of the 1st and 15th of each month. I have also created this blog that I will post every ones percentages at. This will also be a way for everyone to communicate with one another, to post their successes, failures, tips etc, to help motivate one another. Remember, I will only be posting percentages of weight lost by each person, (not your beginning and starting weight, for your privacy).
If at all possible your weight measurements need to be on the same scale each time for accuracy. Also it is important to weigh in the same clothes, or lack of, every time, and the same time of day for increased accuracy.

The more people we get involved, the more money for the winner. Also, there is a possibility of dividing out the money into first, second and third categories, but I would need input from everyone.

For those who'd like to participate, and/or if you have questions, please email me back at: dezaree@gmail.com

I'm excited to get this going. Good luck everyone! Here's to a New and Healthy 2011!!!!
